Heels, Heal. My Heels Experience.

Covid-19 was destructive in so many ways for each of us. I’m an insular being by nature who enjoys time alone, but Covid-19 plunged me into a distilled version of solitary isolation unlike anything I’d ever imagined.

I endured a devastating break-up in the same week that the nation went into hard lockdown. Having just moved into a new home and feeling completely unsettled, I resorted to singing to comfort myself at which point my new neighbours issued me with a noise complaint. I shut up and shut down. It was bad.

I felt like my wings had been clipped, my voice stolen and my freedom taken away. I promised myself that as soon as I was allowed to run wild that I would do just that.

Also, my career as an actress requires me to make a daily return trip to lives of delightfully volatile characters but it is impossible to do so If my departure and arrival lounge is a mess and so I knew that “finding my feet” before filming commenced was crucial. We help others by helping ourselves first!

I started researching dance classes and I discovered Robynn on Instagram. There she was a wonderfully wild warrior woman dancing to a rhythm without restrictions of any kind.

After my first class with her I was so emotional. I felt like I was lurching towards the woman I was before lockdown, but I was lurching through quicksand. We documented the entire journey on our Instagram pages, and it resonated with so many. Robynn became my therapist, and her Heels class became the method through which I found healing. May her work bring about a kind of magic in you too...

Love always,

Jolene Martin
